question to people born after 1981 (the later the better)

is cursive still a thing? Is it still taught in school? Sometimes I hear that places have stopped doing this. I guess I just wonder if it’s going to go away as far as everyday use. Yes I am 100 years old.

1988. We had to learn it and use it for a couple years. Then never again.

1989. The only time I’ve used cursive since I learned it (3rd grade-1998) was when I took the SAT’s and we had to write that one section in cursive (that actually might have been the most difficult part of the exam). My brother was born in 1998 and I don’t think he ever learned how to write cursive (he would have learned in 3rd grade like I did).

I wish my cursive was better I really like the way it looks when people can do it well.

1989! i taught myself penmanship sort of early on because i was obsessed with buying workbooks from teachers’ stores. but we also did lessons in it from 2nd to 5th grade. in 4th grade this meant watching these awesome videos where you had to like, make a flower with an l hidden in it and things like that.

1984 - We had to learn cursive.

However, I am a mother now and my understanding is that cursive isn’t mandatory to know these days. I think they go over some of it in the 2nd grade, but the consensus seems to be to focus on learning to write legibly and learning to type.

Honestly, I’m not over concerned with cursive being phased out. I like the idea of learning to write clearly, and then possibly learning cursive if one so desires.

I was born in ‘91 and I had to learn it in 4th grade. Around ‘99.

It was supposed to be mandatory when I got to middle school, but I guess when ‘01 hit, people were like fuck it.
