My family is recognized under the law as Eastern Band Cherokee Indians of North Carolina but my family and history itself goes deeper than that. They recolonize themselves as Lone Wolf Band Cherokee but they are not officially recognized because none of their ancestors met Dawes Rolls requirements because under the requirements they had to live in Oklahoma which means by Government Standards the Cherokee in Cherokee, North Carolina aren’t Indians either but they have gained recognization over the years just as the Lone Wolf Band has been currently seeking.
WHAT. No. Us Eastern Band folks have to trace back to rolls too. We dont just get to be Indian for living in Cherokee (which…lol…thats just one town in the Qualla land trust)
Please just stop. Lone Wolf Band? I might die from laughter. If you’re family is really “recognized under law” (you mean enrolled?) as EB, why on earth would they be fighting to be in a fake tribe?
um.
i’ve met several cherokee from cherokee, north carolina since my school is so close to there and they’re all enrolled.
