A Tumblr blogger's "Rant about Mexicans."

stfuracists:

Hey, Tumblr community, meet one of your neighbors…

im-perfectly-me:

They come into our country and take over our language. ESL? English is a SECOND language? Hell no. English is the FIRST language of America. If American’s went to Mexico, they would throw a pissy fit if we tried taking over Spanish with English. Why would we let you guys into our free country just so you can fuck it up again? America is full of dumb bitches being fucked up the ass. Some free country, I can’t even voice my own opinion at my school without being threatened to “get jumped”. Go to LA, those are real gangs. Not pussy ones in Salem, Oregon. Don’t get me wrong, not all Mexicans are like this. The majority of them are, though. I don’t care if you call me racist because everyone knows I am. I give props to the smart Mexicans, the non-“gang-bangers”, and so on, too, though. I’m fine if you speak it at your house or something but you shouldn’t be speaking it because you don’t know English. K. Have common sense.
Don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t think Americans are any better. Take a look at this post for instance, it’s so horrible, intolerant, and racist. Every race has their flaw, no matter what.

You know it’s going to be good when a post it titled “rant about Mexicans.”

Another gross phenomenon besides the “I’m not racist but…” - the young, proud racist white girl. They’re all over Tumblr.

lol@english is the first language of america.

oh. okay.

I’m going to stop associating with white people.

At least, stop associating with the racist ones.

First, an apology.

Did a white person ask me, a white person, my opinion about white people participating in Dia de los Muertos? Yes.

Did I give my opinion? Yes.

Did me or the reader think she was asking permission or that I was giving it? No.

Did it appear to other readers that a…

GET THE FUCK OUT OF THIS DISCUSSION.

AND THEN LOCK YOUR DOORS AND NEVER COME OUT.

look at all the crackers already crawling out of the woodwork in the notes to whine about how “everything is cultural appropriation, whine whine can’t have ANYTHING”

unfollowed like whoa

wow this is magnificently gross

also, feeling kinda slow on the uptake here but uh. what the fuck is a white person doing running an anti-racism blog in the first goddamn place?

esp one who’s apparently a huge racist, lol

lol @ the person who’s like “i feel like everything is cultural appropiation”

no stfu and never talk again what are you even doing in this conversation for fucks sake

I would think that, even if one heard differing opinions on whether or not doing something is racist and was unsure, you would want to follow that side that has no chance of having you be a racist asshat.

see, you would think that, because it’s reasonable and logical, but the “well this person/groups says it’s okay” is the oldest trick in the book.

Oh the slightly racist things you find at JoAnn’s…

My reaction was the opposite.
I’m old enough to remember “flesh”-colored crayons that perpetuated normative whiteness. This product actually recognizes that people come in different colors. This seems like a good thing.

Wait how is it racist to have a bunch of different skin colors represented as opposed to just one? What the fuck are you on about?

i kind of like this idea. i can remember being young and having to decide to use the stupid peach/white flesh color or brown, and then have the same brown color for hair. also, these would probably be great to shade with. but then again, if all you have is brown… that might be a bit shit.

Libraries and Lemonade: Newsflash for my fellow readers:

stfuracists:

librariesandlemonade:

(apropos of the conversation Sarah Rees Brennan is having on her tumblr this morning)

A character doesn’t have to be described as a person of color to be a person of color. If you read every character whose race is not indicated as unequivocally white to the degree that you get upset when you find out they’re not white, we need to talk. A character whose description is ambiguous can be a person of color.

This might be too much to ask, of course, from a culture that is more than willing to whitewash even characters who are described as something other than white.

That we’re still vehemently defending the right to exclude people of color from our culturally significant stories makes me sad.

Related: a piece I wrote for Persephone Magazine this summer on the casting of The Hunger Games.

Reminder for whoever needs it: that’s what “normative whiteness” is, when you equate “whiteness” with “normal” or as the default.

I’m just explaining to you why you’re wrong.

You do know you’re wrong, right? That the American Civil War was about racism?

It was about economics, sure. The economics of slavery.

It was about states’ “rights,” sure. Some states wanted the “right” to make sure black people had no rights.

It was about racism.

OHY MY GOD YOU GUYS. THEY TOOK AP US HISTORY.

the racist myth of “reverse racism” and race-based scholarships

stfuracists:

necks-are-for-sheep:

I think the problem nowadays is that everyone assumes that if you’re white, you get everything handed to you. That’s really funny. When was the last time colleges handed out free tuition to white people? Hmm? Oh yeah, they don’t. In every organization in this country, it is easier to get benefits if you are anything but white. Hell, my boyfriend was trying to join the Marines as an officer, and they told him (since he is half Filipino) to put that down as his race because he would stand a much better chance of being picked. (He opted out of the program for personal reasons.)

As far as I can tell, white people (as a whole) actually have it bit tougher. It’s not the 1800’s anymore, people. Us white folk aren’t dominating the demographic.

Though, I’m not complaining about paying for school or whatnot. I’m doing just fine, but that’s because I work hard, and my parents worked hard so that they could afford to send me to college. (By the way, I attend junior college, not a university, if that means anything.) I merely wanted to point out a common misconception that started in the earlier times of our nation.

If you think I’m out of line somewhere, feel free to message me, but only if you have facts and references to go with your argument. And if you want me to take you seriously, don’t go anon :P

Facts and references?

Tim Wise:

According to a national study by the General Accounting Office, less than four percent of scholarship money in the U.S. is represented by awards that consider race as a factor at all, while only 0.25 percent (one quarter of one percent) of all undergrad scholarship dollars come from awards that are restricted to persons of color alone. (U.S. General Accounting Office, 1994. “Information on Minority Targeted Scholarships,” B251634. Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, January.)

In other words, whites are fully capable of competing for and receiving any of the other monies — roughly 99.75 percent of all scholarship funds out there for college.

Only 3.5 percent of college students of color receive any scholarship even partly based on race, suggesting that such programs remain a pathetically small piece of the financial aid picture. (Stephen L. Carter, “Color-Blind and Color-Active,” 1992. The Recorder. January 3.)

So, STFU, Katie.

okay so.

the original post was deleted. no big surprise. a lot of people think they’re being intelligent and progressive, when they’re really just opening the same can of worms and using it to beat the same dead horse. how about before starting your sad measly post of an argument, you take the time to read up? i mean really, damn straight white people overwhelm the demographics. have you never looked at a census?

i’m sick of uncreative white teens starting some faux race post and when facts are presented, they send their same level of ignorance friends in to do some damage control that results in “YOU’RE JUST BEING MEAN. MY FRIEND IS NOT RACIST. IT IS YOU WHO IS RACISM.”

no1curr.

no really. your moms might, your dads might, maybe even grandma or the nice lady down the street, but no one here.

Club Sluts Get Punched.: “yeah, but i’m not like, a RACIST though.”

gabrielladressedinyellow:

i am so tired of constantly seeing people making racist and bigoted comments and then having some kind of convoluted, bullshit excuse for why they’re ‘not racist though’.

“i mean, black people say nigga all the time, what’s the big deal?”

the big deal is that the word nigger, in all of its forms,

is a word that has been used to terrify, demean and dehumanize millions of black people around the world for hundreds of years. it is a word that reeks of violence and brutality and enslavement and rape.

The popularization if it being used between people of color as a word of friendship or term of endearment comes from a movement intent on TAKING BACK the word.

To RECLAIM the hate word, take the hate out of it, and to take the power away from those who would use it to hurt. This caught on and in many black communities and cultures it became a part of many black people’s everyday language.

BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN that EVERY SINGLE black person participates in the reclamation of the hate word nigger.

That does not mean that EVERY black person on the planet earth believes it is acceptable for ANYONE to use the term.

That does not mean that every black person who uses the word is ACTIVELY CONSCIOUS of where the origins of using it positively comes from.

there is no such thing as ‘unintentional prejudice’

there is intention in every thing we do or say.

it took you a split second to defame millions of people,

laziness or absentmindedness is not an excuse for bigotry.

The fact is, the only PURPOSE of the word nigger is to make whoever is being called that word feel weak and worthless and inhuman.

So if you use the word, and you are NOT a person of color using it with the intention of teaching tolerance and positiveness or carrying on the movement of reclaiming nigga as a hate word.

THEN YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN A RACIST ACT.

when you participate in a racist act

you condone racism.

when you condone racism,

you teach it.

when you teach racism

you champion it.

when you champion racism,

you are a racist.

and you spread hate in a world filled with enough of it already.

end of story.
